Colchester born Katie Farr grew up in Suffolk in the sleepy village of Wenhaston. Moving to Cambridgeshire in 1997, Katie went to college in Soham and then sixth form in Cambridge gaining 10 GCSE A-C and 4 A Levels in business, biology , photography and Politics.

Katie then took a Gap year spending a ski season working in a chalet in Courcheveal and then going on to do aid work in South Africa with AIDS children.

She then took up her defered place at the University of Leeds to study Politics, graduating in 2009 with a 2:1 BA Hons.

Throughout her studies Katie has also been modelling part-time and is agency represented. She has featured in many high profile commercial campaigns and brands including Prediction Magazine, The Richard & Judy Show, Getty images, DFS and Asda. Of course more recently, Katie decided to enter the Miss England contest and was successful in beating over 200 other girls to the Miss Leeds crown. She will go on to compete for the prestigious Miss England title on the 31st Aug/ 1st Sept at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole.

On winning Miss Leeds Katie said

‘I am thrilled and overwhelmed to have been crowned Miss Leeds 2010. I have enjoyed studying in Leeds at such a prestigious university and have loved living in such a vibrant and engaging city which I have now made my permanent home! I aim to use my year as Miss Leeds to continue working with local charities and projects as well as linking Leeds to international development charities which is an area I aspire to work within in the future.

I can’t wait to represent Leeds at the Miss England final and hopefully win the title to really put Leeds on the map!’

Besides her academic and modelling achievements Katie can also be proud of her sporting achievements, primarily in Kickboxing where she has reached Blue belt level so far and is also involved in a local project to promote self defence to young women.

Singing and performing is another string to her bow, having participated in many college plays and musicals including a lead role in Les Miserables as Eponine. Katie is currently recording a singing demo and hopes to be a recording artist one day alongside her many other ambitions!

As previously mentioned, Katie actively fundraises for various charities. She had to raise over 3000 to go to South Africa and work with AIDS children. She is also involved in Local charity work including Western Park Hospital cancer charity where she organised a team two years in a row and helped raise over 1600 pounds in their annual Dragon boat racing event. More recently Katie held a charity Hog Roast event in aid of Breast Cancer Haven and raised 180 pounds.

Finally we must mention Katie’s passion for travel and photography. During University Katie was chosen from thousands of applicants to participate in two governments sponsored study abroad schemes, one in Beijing and the other in Delhi. The programmes involved spending 3 weeks in each county learning about culture, politics and basic language. In India the programme also encompassed a work placement with an NGO. Katie is fortunate to be widely travelled having visited various parts of America, Africa, Asia and Europe. She hopes to visit South America in the future.

Where ever she travels Katie’s Slr camera is usually by her side. She loves to document her travels and adventures and has produced some stunning images which can be seen on this website. Katies love for photography started at a young age and developed through her studies at A-level where she was also awarded the Maurice Broomfield Prize for achievement in Photography.
